Let’s go! Travel to Italy 2022
After the last two years, which most of us spent working from home and stay-cationing instead of vacationing, most people are ready to head to a new destination and get back to exploring and experiencing the beauty and magic of travel. APTours is still here, with our friendly English-speaking drivers, comfortable vehicles and incredible food and culture tours, and we are better than ever! We are looking forward to what is shaping up to be a great year for travel and are eagerly awaiting a busy 2022 travel season in Southern Italy. Here are some updates to get you excited about making Naples, the Amalfi Coast and Sorrento the destination you’ll visit in 2022.
Italy welcomes the world back
Today marks an important date for travellers to Italy, because as of today, March 1, 2022 it is finally possible for non-EU travellers to come to Italy showing only their vaccination certificate, a recovery certificate or a negative test result. Italy also has plans to continue to ease Covid-related restrictions and the state of emergency is set to expire on March 31. You can feel it in the air; Italy is on a path towards normalcy and can’t wait to welcome back visitors from around the world.
Stanley Tucci’s Searching for Italy series
While the pandemic has certainly changed a lot about our world, one thing that definitely has not changed is the incredible beauty, delicious food and impressive art that abounds in Italy and has a starring role in travel to Naples and the Amalfi Coast. It seems only fitting that the first episode of Stanley Tucci’s “Searching for Italy” series, which has enchanted viewers from around the world, covers the Campania region. Tucci takes viewers on a journey to Naples, the Amalfi Coast and the island of Ischia to learn about the area’s mouth-watering pizza, fresh mozzarella, San Marzano tomatoes and even fusion dishes. Why not retrace Tucci’s footsteps during a trip of your own? We are here to help and will make your travel experience stress-free and rewarding.
New discoveries in Pompeii
While the world was in lockdown, the archaeologists in Pompeii were hard at work excavating new areas of the ancient Roman city that was buried when Vesuvius erupted in 79 AD. New and fascinating discoveries continue to come to light every year, and the latest discovery was that of a room for slaves. The room, located within the Civita Giuliana villa, offers new insight into the daily lives of slaves in the ancient society. Did you know that about a third of Pompeii’s 170 acres still have not been excavated? Or that Pompeii is one of the most visited cultural sites in Italy, with millions of visitors each year? Book a tour of Pompeii with us to learn more about the history of this region and see these archaeological wonders for yourself.
ITA airlines, new routes, new planes
Italy enjoyed quite a golden year in 2021, with Roman rock band Maneskin winning the Eurovision Song Contest and the Italian men’s soccer team winning the European Championships to name just two highlights. They also got a winning new airline, ITA, which took over from Alitalia, its bankrupt predecessor. The new airline plans to truly represent Italy by offering incredible customer service, quality Italian food and drinks on board and will be adding new planes to its fleet starting this year. ITA will also be offering more direct flights and routes to the US as well as daily service between London and Milan and other Italian cities, making it even easier to visit the country.
