Port of Naples information ...

What to do from the cruise ship when visiting the Port of Naples ?

NAPLES is one of the most exciting ports in the Mediterranean; from here you can visit two of Europe’s finest archaeological sites Pompeii and Herculaneum, a live volcano! Mt. Vesuvius and one of the most spectacular coastlines in the world, the Amalfi Coast home to Positano, Amalfi and Ravello. If that’s not enough, add in some Italian shopping, delicious pizza, freshly cooked pasta along with drinking world famous Italian wines, whilst you relax and enjoy the passion and charm of the local people.
With such a short time spent in your ports of call, don’t miss out, maximize your time.

BOOK NOW, before you travel. On arrival in Naples your professional English-speaking driver will be waiting to whisk you away - all you need to do is sit back, relax and soak in all the history, culture and sheer beauty of the Neapolitan Rivera.

We offer private, tailor-made shore excursions, conducted by professional English-speaking drivers in fully air-conditioned vehicles.

If you have been to the area on a previous trip, ask about our wine tasting tour and family fun tours where you make your own pizza for lunch. Or visit Oplontis, an amazing archaeological find overshadowed by Pompeii. There is also Caserta Palace, a Royal Palace just 20 minutes outside Naples with 3 kilometres of gardens to explore.

Arriving in the Cruise Port of Naples, Italy

As you book your cruise and check the stops you will see the Port Of Naples; although overlooked by many passengers, this is actually one of the most exciting ports with lots of activities and rich in adventures for you to enjoy.

Arriving into the cruise port you will find our driver waiting for your group as you exit the cruise ship; he will be holding a sign with your name on ready to whisk you away on your chosen itinerary.

The tours usually run from 8am till 5pm depending on the ship's schedule. Our days run according to your cruise ships docking times and not to a set time, as one of our top priorities is a punctual return to your cruise ship.

The area is quite vast which means that we usually fit in 3 places of interest during a full day.

On the website we show our most popular itineraries, but keep in mind these are just a suggestion. Basically, you hire a deluxe, air-conditioned vehicle with an English-speaking driver for a full day, giving you the opportunity to visit the places you wish to see instead of being herded around on a coach full of people.

So, the question is ... what can we visit from the Cruise Port of Naples?
What to see in Naples - Castel dell

What to see in Naples - Castel dell

What to see in Naples - Castel dell'Ovo

If you wish, you can stay in the vibrant city of Naples to discover its many ancient monuments, history museums, churches and art galleries. Explore the cobbled streets with enormous doorways, alleyways lined with washing hanging out to dry and neighbours chatting from their balconies. A city bustling with modern day life, locals going about their everyday chores with a smile and usually a bit of friendly advice if you cross them. Coffee bars selling real coffee and pizzerias where you can try the original pizza; just don't try ordering toppings such as pineapple - pizzas are sacred to them!
Naples is non-stop day and night and the energy and love for life is infectious.

The best way to start a full day tour in Naples would be a morning espresso at 'Caffè Gambrinus' situated in the main piazza opposite the Port of Naples. Follow that with a stroll through the majestic Galleria Umberto and a picture outside the world famous San Carlo Opera House. Then heading further into the historical centre enjoy a visit to the churches of Santa Chiara and Gesu Nuovo, and the marble statue of the Veiled Christ. Lunch along the seafront at one of the trendy pizzerias and a visit to the Castel dell'Ovo where legend has it Virgil put a magical egg into the foundations. Should this egg ever be broken, the castle will collapse and a series of disastrous events for Naples would follow. Spend the afternoon visiting the archaeological museum or tour the underground tunnels - Napoli Sotterranea - used as everything from Roman aqueducts to WWII air-raid shelters. Time permitting, enjoy a drive to a panoramic point to witness the breathtaking view of the Bay of Naples, stretching from the city of Naples, around past Vesuvius, across to Sorrento and over to the island of Capri.

What to see from Naples - Pompeii and Herculaneum

Another option from the cruise port of Naples is to visit the UNESCO archaeological sites of Pompeii and Herculaneum - two thriving Roman cities before being wiped out by an eruption from the mighty Mt. Vesuvius in 79 AD.

To enrich your time in the sites we can offer a qualified English-speaking guide who, with their passion and knowledge, will bring the ruins back to life for you.

Let us take you to Pompeii to wander around this incredible open air museum created by a natural disaster; stand on the actual streets that crumbled beneath the Romans' feet 2000 years ago - something that a lot of people only dream of doing.

The ancient town of Herculaneum is also a must see.  Although it is somewhat overshadowed by its big brother Pompeii, the irony is that it's actually better preserved. It is much smaller and was a much richer place where the Romans had their holiday villas down by the sea, preserved in mud means that original mosaics and paintings are still visible and the villas stand today as they did over 2000 years ago.

Vesuvius and wine tasting tour from Naples port
What to see from Naples - Vesuvius

What to see from Naples - Vesuvius

What to see from Naples - Vesuvius

It is possible to visit the live volcano, the culprit of the destruction of Roman life within its reach. Walk right up to the crater to see inside Vesuvius which is still regarded as an active volcano, although its current activity produces little more than sulfur-rich steam from vents at the bottom and walls of the crater. Layers of lava, ash, scoria and pumice make up the volcanic peak. From the crater 1,281 meters high you have a bird's eye view of the Bay of Naples and a feeling of being on top of the world. The slopes of the volcano are scarred by lava flows, while the rest are heavily vegetated, at higher altitudes with scrub and forests and vineyards lower down.

The extremely fertile soil in the area - a result of the main eruptions - help to grow grapes used to make a unique wine called Lacryma Cristi. The first mention of this grape variety being grown in this area dates back to the 5th century BC. The vineyards have now opened their doors to the public so you can enjoy a relaxing stroll around with the owners learning their techniques handed down through generations and then enjoy a delicious freshly cooked lunch accompanied with wine tasting.

What to see from Naples - Positano and Amalfi Coast

For those who love beautiful scenery then our number one place to visit is the famous Amalfi Coast, with free time in the towns of Ravello, Amalfi and Positano.  This is a full day tour like no other; every part of the coast road offers a new and spectacular view. Below, crystal blue Mediterranean sea and towering above, emerald green mountains. The town of Ravello has two amazing gardens to visit, one within the Villa Rufolo and the other at Villa Cimbrone. The town itself has an elegant feel with a couple of souvenir shops and quaint cafes and right in the middle of the main piazza is the Cathedral - in Italian 'Duomo' -  the spiritual and social center of Ravello, built in the 11th Century with a combination of Baroque and Romanesque styles. In Amalfi we find the magnificient building of St Andrews Cathedral which dominates the main square with its dramatic flight of over 60 steps to the entrance and its facade brilliant with mosaics. Pretty Positano showers down the mountainside, explore its alleys which are crammed with cafes and boutiques.

The geographic layout of the Bay of Naples makes it possible for us to offer a fun end to your Naples shore excursion.  Instead of driving back along the same route you used on arrival, for all tours that include a stop in Sorrento there is a ferry that sails at 4:25pm from the Port of Sorrento straight across the bay arriving into Naples Port at 5pm next to the cruise ship.  We will assist you with the ferry crossing, please email for further information at info@aptours.it

If you have already visited the area and would like something different, here are some alternative tour itineraries you may wish to consider.
